We’ve had a go but it’s not easy. Payment gateways for the Dutch market is still problematic. I’m still keeping my eye out because somebody is going to crack it.
One other problem is that most solutions are very ridged and complex. Shopping, cart and payment flows, although usually very similar, are never identical.

I know it’s not directly EE but my jaw did drop when I saw the price of shopigniter.

Cartthrob looks interesting though, as Egor said, it boils down to payment gateways for your region.

I’ve had to shy away from EE for ecommerce sites other than simple Paypal jobs, but now Cartthrob is here that will probably change!

Have just released a site where I’ve used CartThrob to implement the cart/ecommerce component. The Cart, although always planned, was implemented after we’d got all the product catalogue sorted but the flexibility of it allowed a relatively simple integration. We also had Chris/Rob at CartThrob write a gateway integration for the client’s bank payment gateway (ANZ eGate) and their support throughout the process was pretty awesome.

Great to be able to finally have a decent cart module for EE and allow full EE flexibility with everything else.

Cheers

I started looking at adding online payments for bookings on a small outdoor activity company site, but gave up because of all the hassle/complexity of getting it working.

I planned to go and look at CartThrob after it was established and think about using it for next season.

Considering the amount of online payment going on it still seems way too complicated to set up a flexible payment system. Google looked the easiest to get working but the requirement to have a Google account was a deal breaker.

We’ve been playing with CartThrob too and almost have a decent demo built up.

Most of our ecommerce work is on Magento, but it looks good for some nice looking niche brands with not too many product lines.

From scratch I’ve managed to build something on a par with Shopify in less than 2 days, so it’s looking promising so far!

I’m looking forward to using CartThrob on a project we are working on now.

In the past we have used Magento with ExpressionEngine. So far it has worked out very nicely but it would have been ideal if everything could have been controlled through EE. Here’s the site: http://advancedhomeactives.com

Egor has it sussed - I’ve done a small site recently and they wanted to add iDEAL as a payment gateway. Even though there wasn’t a true cart involved, there was no simple 1-2 method to iDEAL and to have clean internal client registration.

I’ve bought Carttrob a few weeks back and only today read a tweet that they’re going to look into iDEAL integration next week, probably after the EE event.
