I’d like to make an EE Help Chat available at a time that isn’t just good for North America. But the rub is that I can’t do it myself because that would require interrupting my regular work day (at my day job).
This is where you come in.
I’m looking for 2-3 people to volunteer to moderate the European EE Help Chat. The chat will probably take place on Wednesdays at some point in the evening local time (21:00 seems to work well in the States). This is a commitment to the community to moderate the chat every week, so please only step up if you can take that on. If I can get a few people you can rotate so you’re only required to be there once or twice per month.
To moderate the chat you don’t need to be the most seasoned EE expert. You do, however, need the desire and patience to help others. I provide the software (Campfire) and access needed to run the chat. I just need your expertise and volunteerism.
Does this sound like something you’re interested in? If so, drop me an email: info@eeinsider.com.
Eric Miller Design has posted a handy tutorial on integrating SlideShowPro photo galleries with ExpressionEngine.
In this solution, a single EE weblog entry (not in the photo gallery module) is used for each photo. One Flash file is used to generate multiply galleries, and these galleries are created based on photos with matching categories or content within an EE field, such as an event name or tag.
My first ExpressionEngine book has been available as an ebook and pre-order since December. But, starting this week, the print copies of the book are now shipping.
If you pre-ordered your copy of the printed book it should arrive soon. If you haven’t yet ordered but would like to, the best way to get the book is directly from the publisher.
Stephen “I spend my days creating cool stuff for you” Lewis of Experience Internet has released a very cool new fieldtype called DropDate.
DropDate is a custom fieldtype, enabling easy selection of dates in the Control Panel or Stand-Alone Entry Forms using day, month, and year drop-downs.
If you’ve been looking for a better way to input dates (especially using FF Matrix), this may be for you!
My esteemed colleague and fellow panelist, Jenn Lukas, has released her ExpressionEngine 2 Starter Files for everyone to download and use. You should feel free to customize the templates to your liking and keep them tucked away for use when you start a new EE site.
The files make it easy to get a basic template framework up and running on EE 2. You place the files in your site directory and then use the new feature in EE 2 that allows you to create new templates from files. That’s all there is to it.
We’ve received some great questions already for our new, upcoming “Ask the Pro” series here on EE Insider. Have you sent yours in?
Each month, Fred Boyle of nGen Works will answer one or more of your questions on ExpressionEngine. But we don’t know what you want to ask unless you send one in!
A reminder to everyone in Austin for SXSW. Our ExpressionEngine 2: Total Domination! panel is today at 12:30 PM in Ballroom B of the Austin Convention Center.
Here’s the description:
ExpressionEngine is growing in popularity and with the release of 2.0, it’s power has expanded to the stratosphere. Powering great websites such as Change.gov, A List Apart, and Campaign Monitor, it represents an amazing way to build websites and publish content. Join us as 5 experts give best practices from a beginner front-end level up to extension developer supreme.
Join me, Kenny Meyers, Brian Warren, Jenn Lukas and Mark Huot for one hour of presentations on cool stuff you can do with ExpressionEngine.
Every week we bring you the latest additions to the Devot:ee add-on database. Here’s a long list of goodies that should keep you busy through the weekend.
We can make the meeting as loose or structured as you’d like; I have no ideas set in stone. For those people that are interested, I’m also looking for potential locations. If it’s a small group, we could informally meet at a cafe or restaurant. Larger groups would obviously require a bit more planning.
Interested in joining us? Drop me an email and let me know: info@eeinsider.com I’ll compile a list of names and we’ll proceed from there!
This post has been a long time coming. Whether on Twitter or in the blogosphere, the question often arises, and I have been asked numerous times for my opinion on the ExpressionEngine vs. WordPress debate, and why one would choose one content management system (CMS) over the other.
My usual answer is that they cannot be compared. While WordPress had made huge strides in usability, for anything other than a blog it is an apple.
ExpressionEngine, with the release of version 2.0, makes for a lovely platform that is, as we will see, an orange.
His main point was (and I agree) that it’s an apples and oranges comparison. I do disagree, however, that WordPress is for tinkerers and EE is for designers or non-programmers. It’s a generalization that is true sometimes but hardly true all of the time.
Planet-EE released their first module for EE 2, Search Results, which makes it easier to get your search results organized how you would like.
This straight forward, easy-to-use module gives you greater control over your search results without having to add PHP scripts to your templates, modify the EE core files, or use the SQL query tags.
Some of what this module does: group results by any field, sort by any field, and manage excerpt sizes. EE Insider has not yet tested this module.
Over the next few months we’ll be rolling out new content and features on EE Insider. The first part of this is our new “Ask the Pro” monthly column.
In this column EE Pro Fred Boyle (of nGen Works) will answer as many of your questions as possible. But before we can start we need your help by submitting questions about how to do something on ExpressionEngine.
Want to go to EECI 2010 in San Francisco? Do you want to get your conference pass completely free? I thought that’s what you’d say.
EllisLab is giving away one full conference pass (gets you in to all conference activities) to one lucky member of the EE community. Entering is as easy as a simple tweet:
To enter to win the full conference ticket to EECI2010, just Tweet your favorite thing about either ExpressionEngine or CodeIgniter, including the full name of the product, the #eecifree hash, and the bit.ly link to this blog post (http://bit.ly/cEAhqM).
Even if you’ve already paid for a conference pass, you can still win! EllisLab will simply reimburse you for the cost. So, what are you waiting for?
