Have you tried out EE Blocks yet?
It’s a rich content field type for ExpressionEngine that allows you to add different types of content and then move that content around to your liking.
They posted a helpful how-to on using EE Blocks to create captions for images.
Captioned images. They seem like they should be so easy. Drop an image into a content field and add a caption, and you’re done, right?
But they never are easy, are they? I can’t even count the number of times a client has requested an easy way to add captioned images to a content area on a site.

Just released on November 1st is a minimal theme for the ExpressionEngine Forum module. It’s called eeBootstrap.
By the name, it’s obvious that it is built on Bootstrap. It can be toggled to different Bootswatch themes (see the live example to try that out) if you want a slightly different look.
eeBootstrap is a professional theme for ExpressionEngine Forum Discussion Module, is developed with the latest version of Twitter Bootstrap framework, HTML5 e CSS3.
It’s also responsive and customizable the same way a Bootstrap-based site is.
You can see it in action here (looks really nice!) and test it out before you decide to purchase a license for one of your projects.
What I initially like about the idea of this theme is that might make more people use the EE Forum module. Theming it is a major pain and a lot of people shy away from it because of that. This theme makes using the module more appealing to me.
The eeBoostrap theme is $49.50 and available at Devot-ee for purchase.
A big update to Dash-ee was released today and it sports a a lot of improvements, like multiple dashboards and a new interface.
What’s Dash-ee? It’s a module that allows you to create a completely customizable EE control panel dashboard.

A popular tool for connecting to EE and editing your templates breaks when running on ExpressionEngine 2.8.
In a follow-up tweet, Mountee links to two EllisLab blog posts detailing the new EE 2.8 features on Sessions, Login Modals, and Secure Forms and Cleaner Control Panel URLs.
The “a lot of work to fix” note isn’t reassuring. Let’s hope they can make it happen.
Freshly released over the weekend, Store 2.2 is out from the fine people at Exp-resso.
The release change you might want to carefully note is that Store 2.2 requires ExpressionEngine 2.7 (and later) now. If you upgrade, ensure you are running that latest version of ExpressionEngine.
I like and use Store. It’s a great e-commerce option for ExpressionEngine.

Our friends at Expresso recently released Store 2.0, a big update to their popular e-commerce add-on for ExpressionEngine.
The new version is built on top of the open source OmniPay library and features improvements to shipping, discounts and taxes. The update is paid, at $199 for existing customers, and available now. To get the upgrade just log in to your account.
I have not yet used Store 2.0 but I’ve been using Store 1.x for more than a year to run all of store functions at Mijingo. It has flawlessly handled running my store and sending purchases through Authorize.net and PayPal. I’d like better reporting out of the box (hoping for some improvements in 2.0) but for a basic package I couldn’t be happier. I am planning to update to Store 2.0 in the near future.

While we are proud of the Multi Language Module and have had great feedback from people about it, the add-on is a bit outdated and really only suitable for smaller sites with less demand for multi-lingual functionality. So for that reason we are making it a free add-on for everyone to use as you wish. This also means however that the add-on will not be further developed and that support requests will get second priority after commercial add-ons.
The module is available for EE1 and EE2. It used to be free for non-profits and now it’s free for everyone.

Last week an update to CartThrob was released and it includes support for EE 2.6. The big update fixes several issues (see the changelog for details and added a few things, too.

Last week at EEUK, Chris Imrie demoed and announced a brand new add-on he co-developed with (EE Insider guest author) Eric Lamb. The add-on is called Entry Analytics and it gives you a glimpse into the performance of your entries…right in the entry edit form!

Entry Analytics uses Google Analytics to fetch the data about the visit, pageviews, bounce rate, conversions and more on each of your entries. In order to use Entry Analytics you have to have a Google Analytics account and it needs to be hooked up to the site where you want to install the add-on. I have years of Google Analytics data, so plugging in the add-on I immediately had data to view.
If you or your clients are into measuring and viewing analytics on their website, this add-on will be a good companion. I have it running here on EE Insider (the developers provided me a complimentary copy) and I look forward to seeing the numbers.
Entry Analytics cost $65 and is available on Devot:ee.
Last week Masuga Design updated Link Vault, their add-on that makes it easy to create and track protected download links in your EE site.
Version 1.3.0 has some additions, like ability to create pretty URLs and append the file name to the URL. There are some refinements and bug fixes included.
I have personally used Link Vault and can recommend it as a solid way to track and protect downloads.

If you rely on Eric Lamb’s Securit:ee add-on, it has just been updated with bug fixes and improvements, including support for the upcoming 2.6 release of ExpressionEngine.

Securit:ee is a security suite for ExpressionEngine 2. Securit:ee adds a number of security enhancements to ExpressionEngine including a file monitor, CP login alert, CP and Client Side IP locker, CP Quick Deny, and Security Scanner.
Justin Long put together Accepting Donations with Exp:resso Store, a tutorial on taking donations using the Store Module by Exp:resso.
Justin turn the quantity field into the price field and then cleverly sets the product price to $1. The end result is the ability to set the price you want to donate.

I don’t usually post about unreleased site, services or add-ons (because announcing is the easy part), but the Entry Trash add-on by Rein de Vries has me intrigued.
Entry Trash is a Extension that will move an entry upon deletetion to the trash, with all their associated data. From here you can view the entries and you can restore or delete the entries entirely from the database. By using the Entry Trash, you will never lose your entry data entirely or accidentally by deleting.
The Devot-ee page says it is in public beta but I’m not able to find a download link anywhere. Once it is available I’m definitely going to try it out.
EE Insider columnist and add-on developer Eric Lamb recently asked on StackExchange how to display members in a group in an EE template.
Is there a way to display all the members that belong to a certain group_id inside a template without resorting to the lame and gross profile_themes nonsense?
The best answer was to use AC Member (but you could also do this with a query).
A lot of good help happening in the EE StackExchange. Should be a daily destination even if you don’t have a question or can’t answer one.
CartThrob, one of the fantastic e-commerce solutions for ExpressionEngine has some awesome changes in store for us. (See what I did there?)

Order Manager
From the looks of the screenshots, this Order Manager is full of graphs, reports, and more, to easily keep track of orders.
Gift Certificates
Gift certificates are coming to CartThrob! With the ability to keep track of amount redeemed, and remaining balance, I’m sure this is a welcomed addition.
Expired Cart Notifications
From what appears to be a method for sending custom email notifications to customers for reasons relating to one’s cart expiring, these additional customizations to CartThrob look useful.
So, there you have it folks. The three previewed new features of CartThrob. No word on exact dates, but the folks over at Barrett Newton sure seem busy.
