New FieldFrame Fieldtype: File Field
Earlier this month, I told you about a new extension from Brandon Kelly called FieldFrame.
FieldFrame is more than just an extension, it’s a “framework for rapid development of fieldtype extensions.“ FieldFrame makes it easy to build custom fieldtypes for the EE control panel publish form.
I built a simple fieldtype for the extension and posted it up on GitHub for download. In the meantime, several other developers have also posted their own fieldtypes for download.
The latest is a really great fieldtype from nGen Works (makers of Structure) and it’s called File Field.
This is very similar to Mark Huot’s popular File extension, but File Field also works inside of the FF Matrix fieldtype, which is a rewrite of Leevi Graham’s LG Data Matrix extension.
So, file uploads inside of the data matrix. That, my friends, is total hotness. I actually started to alter Leevi’s extension to do this very thing but now I don’t have to. Thank you, nGen Works.
The File Field fieldtype is free, requires that you have FieldFrame installed and it available now for download. Drop any questions or requests you may have in the EE forum thread announcing the new release.

Thanks Ryan.
Managed to bounce over to the forum thread:

Where would advanced users use this type of matrix? Would it be good for mixing different filetypes in the same matrix?

Wow… I’m going to have to give this extension a shot as soon as I get back from vacation. This looks like just the thing I need for a couple of projects that I’m working on.

FieldFrame is bigger than 2.0 from an input design perspective. I think it is game changing. Any idea where Brandon Kelly got the idea to put it together?
