Upcoming ExpressionEngine Training

There are a couple of upcoming ExpressionEngine training opportunities, I wanted to let you know about.

First, there’s the classroom training by Mike Boyink of Train-ee. The next installment of Mike’s 4-day intensive class on building websites with ExpressionEngine takes place September 13-16 in Holland, Michigan. This is also the first class Mike will teach exclusively on ExpressionEngine 2. The class takes place at the City Flats hotel, which is also where you will be staying while in Holland.

Mike has been doing these trainings for a while and has a well-formulated plan for helping you learn all about EE in four days.

Up until August 13th you can get the early bird price of $1195 for the 4-day training. Get all of the details at Train-ee.

Second, is a webinar class by Creat-ee, which is offering an 8 session (twice per week for four weeks), online-only class on ExpressionEngine. The class is taught by Jae Barclay and costs $499 for the 8 sessions. You can learn more about it at the Creat-ee website.

I’m sorry but Boyink is living in the dark ages. A well prouced video would not only relieve him on the “class room environment”, it would make a him a lot more money, heck I would buy it. I bought his ee book it was so wordy I dumped it.

I learned everthing about ee from Ryans video…what a joke. On the net you have to make something worth 1,500 dollars to successfully sell it or 250.

Thanks for the shout-out Ryan!

Regarding Mike’s class, there’s nothing that replaces in-person teaching. He’s a very highly regarded expert and teacher, and have heard nothing but absolutely positive reviews about his classes.

I think his Train-ee sessions have been one of the pillars in the EE community and am very glad to see it succeed and grow. (And compared to a lot of other in-person training sessions, his are very reasonably priced to boot.)

Regarding my Creat-ee classes, email me directly to still take $100 off the class (starts tomorrow, August 3rd) at learn[at]creat-ee.com or jae@ejaedesign.com

Ouch, $1195 for four days of intensive training seems like a pretty steep price (steeper still if you wait after 8/13, after which it costs $1495). Am I missing something, or are (besides the lessons) breakfast, lunch, snack, and dinner the only other things included in the $1495 price? Seems to me you have to pay airfare, transportation, and accommodation yourself. Call me crazy, but for $1495 I would prefer to get an all inclusive four-day vacation at some Caribbean island where I can catch up with some EE podcasts in a leisurely tropical beach setting.

The $399 for the 8-session online class seems way more reasonable IMO.

Hey Folks -

I realize classroom training isn’t for everyone, so am glad to see Jae filling the demand for on-line training.

However, (as Jae mentions) classroom training continues to offer benefits just not possible with a video or even online training and that’s face to face time, instant Q&A, and relationship building with other people.  It hasn’t been unusual for past students to pass work to each other, hire each other, or even form business partnerships as a result of a Train-ee class.

One of the most common end-of-week comments we receive from students is that we don’t charge enough…;)

I’ll go back to the dark ages now…;)

Boyink, using Skype is probably a lot cheaper than flying to your town…

Boyink11:38 on 08.04.2010

Just curious George, did you even read my response?

george12:04 on 08.04.2010

You can have face time, instant Q&A, and relationship building via Skype.

I’d agree - to a point that’s its better than connecting in a text-only fashion.

But no webcam-based “face time” will ever beat a true in-person face-to-face experience. This is proven over and over again by people continuing to attend (at great expense) conferences like SXSW,EECI, and dozens of others.

In the end it doesn’t really matter if you and I agree on this anyway - because the reality is doing the EE classes as a in-person, classroom experience is just too much fun to think about stopping in favor of an approach that involves spending more time in a dark room in front of a screen.

If did that I wouldn’t be able to have cookouts, drink beer, have EE Meetups, go sailing with other cool web people learning ExpressionEngine.

However - there are plans in the works for both a greater variety of opportunities to learn more about EE, both in duration and location, so stay tuned..wink
