Free Trial of EllisLab Silver Support Plan

Blog Entry

While EllisLab product support (ExpressionEngine and MojoMotor) has moved to a paid system, EllisLab hasn’t left us out to dry. In the blog post “Introducing a New EllisLab Support Experience” the following is stated:

…every single ExpressionEngine or MojoMotor license holder gets 3 months of the new EllisLab Support right now. To start your complementary 3 month subscription, just add Silver Support to your cart in the store and complete the order as usual. And starting today, anyone purchasing our software for the first time will get the same deal.

The Silver Support plan has the following benefits:

  • 1 Urgent Ticket per month
  • Unlimited support tickets
  • Unlimited sites covered
  • 2 Day Response time

Typically this is $49 per month.

Again, you get a three month trial of this.

New EllisLab Refund Policy: There Isn’t One

Blog Entry

There’s a new refund policy on EllisLab software: there isn’t one. This is a change from the 30 day money back guarantee. They do however, encourage you to test before you buy.

From the license agreement:

Due to the non-returnable nature of downloadable software, EllisLab, Inc. does not issue refunds once a transaction has been completed.

If you have questions about whether or not ExpressionEngine will work for you, please contact us to request a free trial.

Round Up of all the Changes to EllisLab

Blog Entry

This post will list the changes that have occurred at EllisLab today. I’ll write separate posts for things I think deserve more detail. But for a quick “first look”, this is for you.

  • New EllisLab site. ExpressionEngine, CodeIgniter, MojoMotor, and EllisLab all had separate sites. Now, they are combined, and have been completely redesigned.
  • EllisLab has switched to a paid support model with support plans starting at $49 per month. This is a private support service. (I think this is great personally, and the Stack Exchange site couldn’t have come at a better time.)
  • ExpressionEngine comes in one license flavor at $299.
  • There is a brand new store. One you would actually want to use.
  • Derek Jones has been named CEO.
  • Volume discounts have been discontinued in its current form.
  • Three months of EllisLab Support is included with your first license purchase. (Source).

And that’s what stands out to me. Stay tuned for more.

EllisLab Pro Network Goes Offline

Blog Entry

In an email sent to Pro Network members, EllisLab states that they will be performing “a full reset” of the Pro Network. This includes the members, as well as what the goals of the Pro Network actually are. So, from henceforth, the Pro Network is no longer in existence. EllisLab encourages you to send them feedback (team@ellislab.com) so that in the case the Pro Network returns, you and your business can find greater value in the program.

What are your thoughts on this?

The message in its entirety is below:

Hello,

You are receiving this email as a member of the ExpressionEngine Pro Network.

Many of you have expressed to us that you feel that the Pro Network has become a bit crowded, with many members who did not keep their profiles updated. This has resulted in a once useful resource becoming less useful as the stale data made it frustrating for people to find someone who was both well suited to their project but also still using ExpressionEngine and in some cases even still in business.

Thus we have decided to “blow out the dust” so to speak and do a full reset. As of today, our Pro Network will be going offline.

We don’t want to disband it and simply start inviting participants in the same way as we originally did though, or its loss of value will be cyclical. We would like to consider ways to rebuild it in a way that ensures that the listings stay up to date, relevant, and represent only the highest quality agencies and freelancers.

For those those that wish to participate in the Pro Network if it returns, please let us know how your business can best benefit from the program so we can tailor the implementation to help you succeed. To help us organize the feedback, we’d love if you sent your emails to team@ellislab.com with the subject line “Pro Network”, or simply reply to this email.

We would like to thank you for your participation in this program, and we look forward to hearing from you about the future needs of the Pro Network.

Sincerely,
The EllisLab Team

Weekly Wrap: Friday; November 23, 2012

Blog Entry

Weekly Wrap Image To everyone in the USA, Happy Thanksgiving! I spent a few hours yesterday eating food, having a few drinks and spending time away from the computer. I hope you were able to do the same.

I am certainly thankful for the ExpressionEngine community and everyone that has been to supportive of EE Insider over the last (almost) 4 years. We celebrate our fourth anniversary in January and in the online world where things come and go quickly, I am thankful to still be writing on this site and grateful that you’re still reading.

As I mentioned in my EECI talk last month, some of the greatest things in the community come from outside the ExpressionEngine software and EllisLab. We have amazing choices of add-ons, software, and services. And, as I pointed out in my talk, many people in our community have great personal stories of how they came to the community and how it has helped them succeed. We should certainly be thankful for that.

The ExpressionEngine Stack Exchange proposal (and now beta) that kicked off right as EECI was wrapping up was the proof of what I tried to convey in my talk. We have a great thing going in the community and we should be proud of it.

So, as you’re winding down the week and easing into your weekend, here’s the community news from the week. Cheers to you!

The ExpressionEngine Stack Exchange Site Needs You!

Blog Entry

The ExpressionEngine Stack Exchange Beta site needs your help!

Robert Cartaino, Director of Community Development for the Stack Exchange Network, stated that the ExpressionEngine Stack Exchange site is not ready for public launch.

The purpose of a private beta is to prepare the site for opening day. But this site needs a lot more participation or I fear it may never get out of private beta. We’ve extend the private-beta of this site, but that’s only a stop-gap measure to give you more time.

The enthusiasm and momentum that was present during the commitment stage seems to have been lost.

But, rest assured, I’m sure we can get it back.

Here are 5 tips for making sure the ExpressionEngine Beta site makes it to a public launch.

  1. Invite fellow experts. For those already in the beta, you have the ability to invite others who don’t have access to the private site. So, if you know of people who aren’t in yet, invite them, and encourage them to ask questions. (If you need an invite, let either myself or Ryan know, and we’ll get you in.)
  2. Tweet your questions with a link to the question on the Stack Exchange site. Most of the ExpressionEngine community is actively on Twitter monitoring the #eecms hashtag. You can take advantage of both Twitter and the Stack Exchange site by Tweeting your question with a link to the question on the Stack Exchange site.
  3. Add your input to the ExpressionEngine Meta site. The ExpressionEngine Meta Site is meant for discussing how to build a successful community around the Stack Exchange site.
  4. Get Involved with the ExpressionEngine Stack Exchange API Spec. Justin Kimbrell has put together an API spec around the Stack Exchange site. As a developer, contributing to this will help create a centralized place for providing support.
  5. Think of the site as a public knowledge base. Patrick Pohler reenforced that this is for the community. The fact that we are building a public knowledge space for others to learn about the system we’ve all come to love should drive us to want to make it awesome.

I really do think the Stack Exchange site can be extremely useful, if we all use it appropriately.

ExpressionEngine Stack Exchange Site in Beta Stage

Blog Entry

The ExpressionEngine Stack Exchange proposal has moved into the beta stage!

If you committed to the Area 51 proposal, you should have received an invite into the private beta (which can be found here). For those who haven’t committed yet, it would appear you have to wait for the private beta to end before you can get access.

In the mean time, those with access, ask away!
