I think anyone who’s frustrated with the templating system has either not taken the time to familiarize themselves before diving into a project, or is stuck thinking in the paradigm of another CMS that they’ve used before. Compared to what else is out there, I find that EE allows more unfettered access to the raw data and more control over it in the template than any other CMS on the market.

Agree with Chris. The biggest problem with EE’s template system is that, well, they aren’t really templates. The word “template” has a very specific meaning outside of EE and when you first come into EE, it’s hard to get your head around the difference.

To this day, whenever I’m explaining what I’m doing to my boss, I have to make sure not to use the word “template” because he’ll think I mean something entirely different.
